The three-vehicle collision in Somerset County on Monday evening killed former New Jersey track star Mario Heslop. Heslop, driving a 2013 Infiniti Q50S eastbound on Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, crossed the dividing line and hit a westbound car at 5:30 p.m.

The second car was struck by a westbound vehicle. Heslop died at a nearby hospital after being injured. Mario Heslop Bio Explored

Heslop was a Jamaican-New Brunswicker. Franklin High School made him one of New Jersey’s greatest sprinters. He was NJ.com boys track athlete of the year in 2018 and 2019 and won 100-, 200-, and 400-meter state titles. He established state records in the 55- and 300-meter dashes.

Heslop ran NCAA Division I track at North Carolina A&T University after finishing high school. Later, he joined Georgia’s OXY Athletics professional track club.

At the Kennesaw State University Invitational in April, he won the 100-meter and 200-meter events in 10.18 and 20.64 seconds. Former coaches and teammates described Heslop as a gifted, hard-working, modest, and always-smiling player. The track and field community and those who knew him are devastated by his demise.
